Abstract

A carrier bag handle is a one piece injection moulding which has a slot along one edge to allow it to be attached to an ordinary carrier bag. The handle can be releasably secured to the carrier bag e.g. by projections on the interior of the handle and can slide off to be used again. The lower edge of the handle is contoured with flowing curves shaped to the contours of a user's hand. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Detachable Carrier Bag Handle This invention relates to a detachable carrier bag handle.
Carrier bags are well known to shoppers. They comprise a thin plastic bag with apertures at the top to allow the hand to pass through and grasp the bag. There is-a special kind of carrier bag where two plastic handles are moulded onto the top edge of the carrier bag, and these can be clipped together.
Carrier bags, however, due to their thin section tend to be uncomfortable on the hand when carrying a heavy load.
According to the present invention there is provided a detachable carrier bag handle consisting of a one piece moulding with a slot along the edge allowing attachment to carrier bag, the outside surface of the handle being shaped to fit the contours of the users hand.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 illustrates the side view of the handle; Figure 2 illustrates the end elevation of the handle; Figure 3 illustrates the plan view of the handle; and Figure 4 shows in perspective the handle attached to a carrier bag.
Referring to the drawing the handle comprises a rigid body 12, a slot 10 for attachment to carrier bag, projections 13, 14 to allow the carrier bag to be secured once in position. At the lower edge of the handle a contoured form 15 is provided forthe comfort of the users fingers.
In order to attach the handle to the carrier bag it is held in the hand with the slot 10 uppermost then the carrier bag 16 is lowered into the slot 10, as shown in Fig. 4.
To detach the handle from the carrier bag the steps described above are carried out in reverse sequence.
1. A detachable carrier bag handle comprising a one piece injection moulding with a slot provided along the edge for attachment to a carrier bag, means provided for securing the handle once in position and the body shaped to the contours of the hand.
2. A detachable carrier bag handle as claimed in Claim 1 wherein projections inside the slot are provided to secure the handle to a carrier bag.
3. A detachable carrier bag handle substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 < of the accompanying drawing.

Carrier bags are well known to shoppers. They comprise a thin plastic bag with apertures at the top to allow the hand to pass through and grasp the bag. There is-a special kind of carrier bag where two plastic handles are moulded onto the top edge of the carrier bag, and these can be clipped together. Carrier bags, however, due to their thin section tend to be uncomfortable on the hand when carrying a heavy load. According to the present invention there is provided a detachable carrier bag handle consisting of a one piece moulding with a slot along the edge allowing attachment to carrier bag, the outside surface of the handle being shaped to fit the contours of the users hand. 1. A detachable carrier bag handle comprising a one piece injection moulding with a slot provided along the edge for attachment to a carrier bag, means provided for securing the handle once in position and the body shaped to the contours of the hand.
2. A detachable carrier bag handle as claimed in Claim 1 wherein projections inside the slot are provided to secure the handle to a carrier bag.
3. A detachable carrier bag handle substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 < of the accompanying drawing.
