Abstract

A handle for supporting carrier bag handles comprises an elongate generally U-section member curved throughout its length to provide a more comfortable grip, the longitudinal edges of the "U" having enlarged portions 3A, 3B to prevent the device slipping off the handles of the carrier bag when these are placed in the groove 4. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a device for supporting carrier bag handles.
When carrying one or more carrier bags, particularly if they are heavy, the handles tends to cut into ones hands. The invention seeks to provide a device to support the carrier bag handles to make them more comfortable.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for supporting carrier bag handles comprising a curved length of material which is substantially U-shaped in cross-section along a major portion of its length. Preferably the two ends of the arms of the U-shaped material are enlarged, e.g into circular portions, when viewed in cross-section. The device may be formed from plastics or metal material and may be moulded or extruded.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a side view of the device of the invention and Figure 2 shows an end view.
Referring to figures 1 and 2, the device of the invention comprises a length of material 1 which is curved. As seen in Figure 2, when viewed in cross-section, the material is Ushaped and the ends of each arm of the "U" 2 is enlarged into circular portion 3a,3b.
In use the handles of the plastic bags can be placed in the goove 4 formed between each arm of the "U", and the device placed in the hand with the fingers gripping the shorter arcuate portion of the curved device. The purpose of the enlarged portions 3a,3b is to prevent the device slipping through the handles of the carrier bag, if the bag, for example, is rested on the ground and the hand of the user temporarily removed. The device is curved to provide a more comfortable grip in the hand, and to spread the load more evenly over the carier bag handle.
The device of the invention may made moulded out of plastics or metal material, or plastics or metal material with the Ushaped cross section continuously extruded, and lengths cut off to form the device of the invention. The curve may be created in the extrusion process or created, e.g by heat and/or a press, after each length is cut. If made out of plastics, a soft plastics with some elasticity may be used to make the device still more comfortable in the hand.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the ar; without departing from the scope of the present invention.
