Abstract

214,155. Fairweather, W. C., (Underwood Typewriter Co.). Aug. 21, 1923. Paper carriages.- A guiding-device, particularly for long carriages, consists of a guide-rod engaging collars near the ends of the carriage, one of the collars being relieved from the weight of the carriage by means of an adjacent roller running on the top of the rod. The rear bar 20 of the carriage is provided, near the ends, with collars 18 engaging a guide-rod 15, and one of the collars is adjacent to a roller 21 running on the top of the rod. The roller has a coned face 31 engaging the rod, and is mounted on an inclined post 30 which is adjustable in a bracket 33 on the bar 20, and is secured by a screw 34. The roller runs on balls 22, Fig. 3, engaging cones 25, 26 which are secured by means of a screw 28 to the post 30, a soft-wire ring 27 being placed between the cones. The carriage may be supported at the front by means of rollers.
