Abstract

298,539. Royal Typewriter Co., Inc., (Assignees of Handley, G. F.). Oct. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Type-lever machines; case-shift mechanism. - A ball - bearing mounting for a vertically shiftable segment is constructed and arranged in the following manner :-The segment B, Fig. 1, is provided with upper races 1 and lower races 3, 5, and the framework E is provided at one side with upper and lower races 9, and at the other side with a single race 12. The races 1, 9 are secured by screws 2, 4. The race 5 is provided with a rib 6 fitting a groove and is secured in adjusted position by a screw 7 passing through a slot. The races 1, 3, 5, 9, being short, can be renewed cheaply. The race 12 is mounted in a groove in the framework and is clamped by one or more screws 18, the race being adjusted towards or from the segment by means of a pair of screws 14 in which are mounted screws 15 threaded into the race. Balls 20 running in the races are mounted in annular pinions which engage teeth on the front and rear edges of the races. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the race 12 may consist of two separate members. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
