Abstract

313,832. Fairweather, W. C., (Underwood Elliott Fisher Co.). Oct. 20. 1928. Paper-carriages.-A bearing-unit particularly for heavy carriages comprises a pair of rollers and a collar for engaging a guide rod. The carriage 13 shown in the Figure is provided with two bearing-units 18 each consisting of a collar 19 and rollers 22, 25, the collar having three bearing-areas 20, and the rollers being mounted on vertical and inclined axes 23, 26 and having cylindrical parts which are parallel to the axes and engage the guide-rod 14 at the front side and at a point half-way between the rear and the crown. The unit has a tongue 18<a> which enters a groove in the carriage and is secured by screws 18<b>. A pair of units is employed, the rollers being arranged inside the collars. The front rollers form an abutment for resisting the impact of the type-levers 10, and the rear rollers relieve the collars from the weight of the carriage and prevent slewing of the carriage when it is arrested.
