Abstract

211,474. Nilsen, H. Feb. 13, 1923, [Convention date]. Electromagnetic interrupters; thermal switches. -In a current limiter for an electric supply, excess current causes the attraction of a contact-making armature 4 which is bodily adjustable, together with its mounting 15 and fixed contact 20, towards and away from the electromagnet for current-setting purposes. The overload relay introduces a heating resistance 6 which, after a time, deflects a diaphragm 8 so as to break the supply circuit at the contacts 9, 10 whereupon the armature falls. The circuit is again established at the contacts 9, 10 when the thermal relay cools down, and is again broken, as before, if the excess demand remains on the circuit. A signal lamp 23 may be connected across the thermal relay so as to give immediate notification that the maximum demand has been exceeded and that, after an interval, the supply circuit will be interrupted.
