Description

SPECIFICATION Method and equipment for transportation of containers on railway waggons The present invention is concerned with a method for the loading of containers or of any other exchangeable load spaces from a truck onto a railway wagon and for their removal from a railway wagon onto a truck, whereat, e.g. by means of an auxiliary frame or otherwise, a stationary journalling point is mounted on the railway wagon on its platform face for the anchorage of the pivot and transportframe as pivotable around its vertical pivot point in relation to the railway wagon and that the pivot and transport frame, which is positioned as directed diagonally towards the side in relation to the railway wagon in the position for loading onto and removal off the railway wagon, is fitted so as to be pivotable to a position parallel to the longitudinal direction of the wagon and to be locked in that position, for the time of transportation.
The transportation of containers on railway wagons is common. In that connection, containers are loaded onto the railway wagons lengthwise, and the loading takes place by means of crane. For rail transportation, a shorter container has also been developed which fits on a railway wagon transversally. Such a short container can be pushed onto the platform face of a railway wagon straight from a truck which has been backed perpendicularly against the side of the wagon.
The method in accordance with the invention is mainly characterized in that the container or any other exchangeable load space is raised by means of the level-lifting frame of the truck to the level of the pivot and transport frame, whose construction corresponds to the construction of the dumping frames or level-lifting frames of trucks using exchangeable load spaces, to a position parallel to the said pivot and transport frame as viewed from above, and that the container or any other exchangeable load space is shifted from the level-lifting frame by means of shifting equipment attached to same onto the pivot and transport frame.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an equipment by means of which easy road-raii-road transportation of normal-size containers is permitted. The equipment in accordance with the invention is mainly characterized in that the pivot and transport frame has been designed as jointly operative with the base construction of the containers or of any other exchangeable load spaces so that its construction corresponds the dumping frames or level-lifting frames of trucks using exchangeable load spaces and that the length of the pivot and transport frame is shorter than the length of the container or any other exchangeable load space to be loaded onto same.
The invention comes out in more detail from the following description and from the attached drawings, wherein Figure 1 is an axonometrical view of the procedure in which a container is being transferred from the truck onto a railway wagon, Figure 2 is a top view of a portion of the platform face of a railway wagon, a pivot and transport frame receiving the container or any other exchangeable load space being fitted onto the platform face, Figure 3 is a side view of the loading of a container from the level-lifting frame of a truck onto the pivot and transport frame of a railway wagon, and Figure 4 is a side view of a railway wagon on which there are three containers in the transport position.
In accordance with the Figures, pivot and transport frames 6 have been mounted on the platform faces 3 of railway wagons 2 by means of auxiliary frames 4, the construction of which pivot and transport frames 6 may correspond, e.g., to the dumping frames or level-lifting frames of trucks using exchangeable load spaces. The auxiliary frames 4 may be fixed to the railway wagons 2, e.g., at the edges of the wagons. Between the auxiliary frame 4 and the pivot and transport frame 6, a journalling point 5 is fitted, in relation to which journalling point the pivot and transport frame 6 is arranged as pivotable in the horizontal plane in relation to the railway wagon 2.
The stationary journalling point 5 of the pivot and transport frame 6 of a container 1 ob of any other exchangeable load space is located on the longitudinal centre line of the railway wagon 2. In relation to the pivot and transport frame 6, the journalling point 5 is located more distant from the end of the pivot and transport frame 6 that is pivoted to receive the container 1 or any other exchangeable load space from the truck 7 or to deliver the said load space onto the truck 7.
At the end of the pivot and transport frame 6 opposite to the journalling point 5, underneath the pivot and transport frame 6, there is at least one supportwheel 9 journalled on the longitudinal axis of the pivot and transport frame 6 in the way shown in Figure 2, the said support wheel 9 being provided to support the said end of the pivot and transport frame 6 while the pivot and transport frame 6 is being pivoted for the purpose of loading of a container 1 or any other exchangeable load space onto, orfor removal of same off the railway wagon 2.
On the path of movement of the support wheel 9 on the platform face 3 of the railway wagon 2, a load-bearing reinforcement rail or plate 10 is fitted, as is shown in Figures 1 and 2.
When the pivot and transport frame 6 is in the loading position pivoted to the side, shown by means of full lines in Figure 2, the corner 11 at the end of the pivot and transport frame 6 opposite to the support wheel 9 must not extend beyond the edge line of the railway wagon 2. This is why the pivoting angle between the transport position and the loading position of the pivot and transport frame 6 is smaller than 45", most appropriately about 30 .
Moreover, in order that it shouid be possible to transfer the container 1 or any other exchangeable load space from the level-lifting frame 8 of the truck 7 onto the railway wagon 2 by using the containertransfer equipment of the level-lifting frame's own, the length of the pivot and transport frame 6 must be less than the length of the container 1 or of any other exchangeable load space to be loaded onto same.
Preferably, such an arrangement is used for the transfer of containers 1 or of other exchangeable load spaces as comes out from the Finnish Patent Application No. 791,689. Therein an equipment is described for transferring an exchange platform or a container on trucks provided with a lifting frame in the longitudinal direction of the lifting frame, whereby the lifting frame is provided with an endlessly circulating chain transfer equipment, which is driven by a hydraulic motor, which extends over the entire length of the lifting frame, and which includes, as a component of the chain, a hook member for grasping the exchange platform or container to be transferred, the said hook member comprising two hook portions opening themselves toward each other, while the hook member is substantially C-shaped as viewed from the side.In such a case, as a grasping member jointly operative with the hook member, in the front part of the bottom of the exchange platform or container, at the middle, there is a grasping loop freely hanging from its fixing point, which grasping loop can swing freely around its fixing point in the longitudinal direction of the exchange platform or container. Moreover, the upper part of the grasping loop has a possibility of vertical movement in relation to the fixing point placed at the bottom of the exchange platform or container.
The loading of a container 1 or of any other exchangeable load space from the truck 7 onto a railway wagon 2 takes place as follows. The pivot and transport frame 6 is pivoted diagonally to the side in relation to the railway wagon 2, and the truck is backed correspondingly into a similar diagonal position to the side of the railway wagon 2. Thereby the pivot and transport frame 6 is located behind the truck 7 as an extension of the level-lifting frame 8 of the truck 7. By means of the chain transfer equipment of the level-lifting frame 8 of the truck, the container 1 or any other exchangeable load space is thereupon transferred from the level-lifting frame 8 onto the pivot and transport frame 6. The end of the pivot and transport frame 6 is provided with vertical posts 12, which prevents a shifting of the container 1 or the other exchangeable load space too far.
Hereupon the truck 7 is driven away from alongside the railway wagon, and the container 1 or any other exchangeable load space is pivoted on the pivot and transport frame 6 from the position diagonal in relation to the railway wagon 2 into a position parallel to the wagon 2, at which position the pivot and transport frame 6 is locked for the time of the rail transport. The objective of the locking is to prevent pivoting of the container 1 or of any other exchangeable load space during transportation. The locking may take place, e.g., by the corners of the container 1 or any other exchangeable load space to the railway wagon, or in any way whatsoever suitable for the purpose, and the locking is not illustrated in more detail in the drawings. The removal of the container 1 or of any other exchangeable load space from the pivot and transport frame 6 of the railway wagon 2 onto the level-lifting frame 8 of the truck 7 takes place in the reversed sequence.
In connection with the present invention, by exchangeable load spaces and containers are meant exchangeable load spaces according to the standards SFS 4417, SMS 3039, and DIN 70,013. According to SFS 4417,thewidth of the guiding tunnel remaining underneath the exchangeable load space between the guide beams shall be 900 mm. According to SFS 4417, the handling equipment for an exchangeable van body with standing legs shall also be suitable for the transportation of exchangeable van bodies with standing legs as per the standards SMS 3039 and DIN 70,013 as well as for the transportation of containers as per the standard SFS 2546, i.e. for the transportation of exchangeable load spaces in which the width of the said guide tunnel underneath the exchangeable load space is 600 mm.
