Abstract

210,105. Graves, A. July 31, 1922. Vehicle lamps.-In lamps for vehicles having a small hemispherical shade or reflector adapted to prevent access of light rays to one-half of the main reflector, whereby a semicircular beam of light having a flat horizontal top is projected, the small reflector is arranged inside the lamp bulb. The filament used to give a dim light may be arranged away from the centre of curvature of the small mirror and also out of the focus of the main reflector. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 9, a filament f<1> is arranged at the focus of the main reflector (not shown) to give the full light, and a filament f<2> is arranged in conjunction but not concentric with the mirror M to give the dim light. The filament f<1> may also lie within the periphery of the mirror M. Independent supports may carry the mirror M, or it may be carried by a bracket attached at d to the common leading-in wire by welding or by a glass bead. The two filaments may be composed of three radiating sections a, b, c, Fig. 11, the two sections a, c being incandensced together to give the full light, and the sections b, c, together to give the dim light, F indicating the position of the focus of the main reflector and C that of the centre of curvature of the mirror M. The position of the source of light with respect to the main reflector mav be adjusted by means of the adjustable lamp holder described in Specification 188,057.
