Transfer-mechanism; zeroizing-mechanism.- In counters of the type wherein the numeral wheels 1 are capable of being driven through friction by the shaft 5 on which thev are mounted but are normally prevented from rotating except at transfer, each wheel is provided on one side with a ten-toothed ratchet 2 and on the other with a single tooth 4. Between adjacent wheels is arranged a ring 9 having a pin 10 to co-operate with the adjacent ratchet 2 and tooth 4, and capable of rocking under spring-control, on a spindle 14. At transfer, the tooth 4 of the lower wheel displaces the ring sufficiently for the pin 10 to release the next higher wheel to allow it to be driven forward one step by the shaft 5. The apparatus described (shown inverted in Fig. 2), includes both a trip and a total counter and in order to zeroize the former, a spindle 26 is first depressed so as, through a lever 23 to shift a shaft 21 axially and thereby break the driving train between the two counters at 18, and is then rotated in order to turn the shaft 5 through gearing 28 in the reverse direction until the teeth 4 abut against the pins 10.
