Zeroizing-mechanism for the counters of a statistical-computing machine, in which pawls 384 on the counter wheels are picked up by notches 383 in the zeroizing-shaft 382, has means for rotating this shaft slightly more than one revolution and then retracting it slightly so as to ensure that counter wheels at zero before resetting shall be picked up. The shaft 379 associated with the individual clutches for the counters has a gear wheel 381 for each counter meshing with a wheel 385 loose on the shaft 382 and having a slot 385<a> which coacts with a pin 386<a> on a block 386 fast on shaft 382 and carrying a cam 390; a spring 388 also connects the block 386 and wheel 385. When the gear wheel 381 is rotated clockwise the wheel 385 drives the block 386 and shaft 382 by the pin-and-slot connection and just before the rotation of the wheel 381 is completed a finger 389 thereon engages the cam 390 and rotates the block 386 and shaft 382 ahead of the wheel 385 to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 5. The finger 389 then leaves the cam, and the block 386 is retracted by spring 388 clockwise relatively to wheel 385 so that the shaft 382 is in the position shown in Fig. 6 leaving a gap between the shoulder of the notch 383 and the pawl 384 so that each pawl in the zero position must drop into the notch in ordinary adding.
