Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.- Heavy fuel, fed by a carburettor, is vaporized by passing through a removable box f, heated bv exhaust or other fluid, and having one or more baffles g; it is admitted at h and passes a throttle valve j to a distributor a which is connected to the engine cylinders by elbows b, of bronze or a similar metal, to cool the mixture. The exhaust passes from tubes d, through a jacket c, to the box f and out by the tube i. The exhaust passage is preferably packed with coke, baryta or other substance having heat regenerative properties. A carburettor p, used for starting, has a suction-operated valve m, Fig. 5, which simultaneously closes the fuel nozzle by a ball l and the mixture outlet by a collar o; a ring r adjusts the size of the air inlets q.
