Jacks.-A packing for pistons, plungers, and the like, applicable for the piston of a pneumatic jack consists of a compressible disc d of vulcanite or graphite &c., which is applied against the flat surface of the piston c and is compressed by the fluid pressure acting on a loose plate e. Detachment of the plate e is prevented by a stud f. Air is supplied to the jack through a valve g and the piston-rod carries a crutch b<1> adjustable by means of a pin b<3>.
