[Addition to 14,447/09.] Cam-actuated pumps; buffers.-In a pump of the kind described in the parent Specification, the india-rubber or other pad used for preventing shock is replaced by an air-cushioning device. In Fig. 3, an air-cylinder a is secured to the eccentric guide-rods p. This cylinder contains a piston b with extension c and air passages d, e, the passage e being closed by a valve f at its upper end. A spring-loaded safety-valve h is provided above the air cylinder. In a modification, the air - cylinder a, Fig. 5, is placed on the upper end of the ram r. The piston has a central passage e closed by a valve as before. The relief valve h is at the side of the cylinder, while the air-inlet passages corresponding to d above, are formed in the cylinder walls.
