Abstract

319,889. Vidal, A. E., (Ansaldo Soc. Anon.). Aug. 21, 1928. Joint-making packing.-Means for closing the end of a tube A, while subjecting it to internal fluid pressure for testing purposes, comprise a piston C, the stem of which passes through a sleeve E secured by a cap D, compressible packing B being confined between the piston and the end of the sleeve. The packing B is compressed by the pressure on the piston C and by the pressure of fluid admitted beneath a piston F, mounted on the stem of the piston C, and moving in a cylindrical recess d in the cap D. The piston F is secured bv a nut G and is either mounted directly on the stem of the piston C, or on an adapting sleeve f secured by a nut H. Similarly, the cap D is secured directly on the end of the tube A, or by means of an adapter sleeve e, according to the size of the tube. The other end of the tube is closed in the same manner and may be of the same or of a different diameter. The fluid is admitted to the tube through a bore b.
