Abstract

Variable resistances.- A filament for thermionic valves comprises wire wound repeatedly around a former A bent to follow the movement of a rotatable brush or contact G sliding over successive turns of the wire, the two extreme positions F, E of the contact G, in which the circuit is broken or all the resistance wire cut out of circuit, being on a straight line through the axis of rotation of the contact G so that a 180‹ scale can be used. The extreme positions F, E are defined by stops C, D, the contact G leaving the wire and breaking the circuit at stop C and contacting with a metal piece H at stop D to cut all the wire out of circuit. The former A may be supported in a bracket B at the front or back of a panel.
