232,476. Stuckey, F. S., and Falk, Stadelmann, & Co., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1924. Various resistances. -An insulating drum a, rotatable by a knob c<2>, is formed with a helical groove b in which is arranged a length of helicallywound resistance wire f so as to project above the groove. A U- shaped contact g embraces and makes contact with the sides of the spiral conductor f, and is carried by an arm h having a triangular or other guide slot so as to be slidable axially along a similarly shaped guide-bar j. A spring k between the guide slot and the bar make electrical contact and allows free relative movement. A spring m form a stop at one end, the resistance being short-circuited when the contact g engages this spring. At the other end is fitted a stop-pin l, the circuit being broken when this engages the contact g.
