Abstract

265,356. Cheers, F. L. Jan. 8, 1926. Variable resistances. - A variable electric resistance comprises a wire mounted on the threads of a screwthreaded drum which moves in and engages with a thread in an outer casing and a contact spring carried by the casing. The drum 3 on which the wire 4 is mounted, Fig. 5, slides on a square or like spindle 9 which can be rotated by means of a knob 10. One end of the wire is connected to a plate on the end of the drum 13 through which the spindle passes, and through the spindle and a spring 12 to the terminal 6. The casing 1 is formed with an internal thread with which the drum 3 engages and which is interrupted by a slot in which is arranged a contact spring 8 connected to a terminal 7. Studs 13 on the barrel co-operate with stops 14 in the casing to limit the movement of the drum 3.
