Abstract

246,325. Smith, J. F. Feb. 17, 1925. Variable resistances; resistance coatings. - A variable resistance, especially suited for use as a grid-leak is provided with a rolling contact formed by a ball or roller moved over the resistance unit by a moving arm. In the form shown the ball 22 rolls in a groove 5 in an insulating block 1. The groove 5 is lined with a coating 6 of graphite or similar material connected to terminals 4 at the ends of the block 1. The ball 22 makes contact with the coating 6 through a string 7 impregnated with graphite &c. The ball 22 is moved by an arm 19 on a spindle 15 with a milled head 16, being held in a slot 21 in a spring blade 20 disposed inside the arm 19. Specification 236.975 is referred to.
