Abstract
386,261. Variable resistances. LONDON ELECTRIC WIRE CO. & SMITHS, Ltd.. and KLEIN, S. B., Playhouse Yard, Golden Lane, London. July 30, 1932, No. 21580. [Class 37.] A variable resistor comprises a fine gauge wire wound upon a strip former which is wound upon another strip, a rolling contact being made with the wire. The resistance wire 3 located in a groove 2 is engaged by a contact member comprising an inclined disc 15 or roller. The disc 15 is carried on a spindle 14 one end of which is mounted in a recess on an enlargement 12a of the operating spindle 11, the recess being eccentric with regard to the axis of the spindle 11. The other end of the spindle 14 is engaged by leaf springs 21 so that rotation of the operating-shaft causes the disc to make a rolling contact with the wire which may have a resistance of from one-quarter to half a megohm.
