Variable resistances.-In an electric resistance wherein a rolling contact is pressed against a resistance element by a movable arm the said arm is included in the resistance circuit and is connected to one of the terminals. Two modifications are described, in one of which the resistance is arranged around the circumference of a disc of insulating material, and in the other a spiral track is formed on a cylinder 1, and a grooved contact ring 5 is moved progressively along the track by a roller 6 slidably carried by a rotary cranked arm 7.
