Variable resistances; resistance coatings and deposits.-A variable high resistance has an insulating base 10 provided on one side with an arcuate channel 11 in which is placed a high resistance element a and a series of disconnected wire elements 20 pressed into intimate contact with the resistance s;rip a by a flexible arcuate wedge 23. The disconnected wire elements 20 may be formed by winding a wire on a flexible fibre or other core 19 and severing the windings along one side. The resistance strip a preferably comprises a paper, fibre, or other flexible base having a graphited or inked surface and may have regions of different resistivities, which may overlap to form transition sections. The resistance is varied by an arm b contacting with the wire elements 20.
