Abstract

177,735. Mickelwright, W. R., and Mickelwright, Ltd. June 2, 1921. Regulating-switches.-In resistance units of the kind comprising a base of insulating material with wire wound and located in grooves on both sides of the base, a series of holes or slots or combined holes and slots are located at one side of the base clear of the grooves to accommodate contacts or terminals. As shown, the base a having grooves b is provided with holes d for contacts e, the wire being laid either in short lengths between the contacts, as a continuous length passing through slots f in the edge of the base. The holes d may be offset by a quarter of the winding pitch so that when two such units are mounted together the contacts are in staggered relation. In the single unit shown in Fig. 3, a sliding-brush j and contact bar g form a multiway switch. In the double unit shown in Fig. 5, the staggered contacts are bridged by brushes h sliding along the bar g. Terminals may be substituted for the contacts and leads taken to a separate switch.
