Variable resistances.-In a rheostat, potentiometer, &c. of the type comprising a wire a' wound on an insulating strip a bent into a circle and carried on a Y-shaped metal support b<1>, to which it may be attached by devices such as those described in Specification 262,196, an L- shaped insulating piece d is interposed between the middle of the resistance element and the turned over end b<2> of the support b<1>. The piece d may be made of fibre and formed with a projection d<1> engaging with a recess in the support b<1>.
