Abstract

544,280. Variable resistances. STANTON, T. L. Oct. 3, 1940, No. 14825. [Class 37] A metal slider carries a blade contact which at one portion of its length is provided with a local projection or is shaped in the form of a V so as to seat between two adjacent turns of the resistance coil, a resilient strip or second blade being arranged above the contact blade so as to apply pressure thereto. The resistance wire a is wound on an insulating tube b of hexagonal or other section. Parallel with the axis of the coil are a pair of rods c on which is mounted a metal slider e carrying the blade contact. The slider comprises a channel-shaped portion provided with four lugs which slide on the rods c. At one end the channel shaped portion is formed with a downwardly extending portion g carrying a blade contact h which has at its other end a local projection of a V-shaped portion i bearing against and seating between adjacent turns of the wire coil. Above the contact is a looped resilient metal strip k having one end secured to the slide and its other end engaging the recessed side of the projection i of the blade contact h. After adjustment of the slider a clamping- screw m is screwed down so as to press down the strip k and force the projection i firmly between adjacent turns. A locknut o may be provided.
