Abstract

Variable resistances; wire. resistances, cored. -In a variable resistance device, particularlv intended for wireless sets, the resistance wire is wound on a length of flexible insulating material and proximate turns are maintained insulated from one another by the wire partially embedding itself in the insulating material. As shown, resistance wire is wound on a length of " high tension silk sleeving," and anchored in a groove 5a of an insulating drum 5 by a tension spring 6 threaded through the tube and having its ends hooked together. Preferably, part of the sleeve is wound with thick resistance wire and the remainder with thin wire, the two wires being connected in series. A rivet 33 is provided to lift the usual sliding contact 14 at the end of the resistor. A similar rivet may be provided at the junction of the thick and thin wires. In a modification, the spring 6 has discs at its ends which abut against the ends of the sleeving; the resistor unit being then secured in the groove 5a in any known manner.
