Guards; guards, controlling.-In press guards of the type in which a shield is caused to swing in front of the tools during each operative movement thereof, an extension pivoted to the shield is arranged to slide over the table or work, or along a guide attached to the table, so preventing the operator's hand from being trapped beneath the shield. A shield a, actuated by a striker i and cam and returned by a spring j, is provided with a pivoted extension b carrying a roller e and held by a a spring d in contact with the table c or the work. The roller may be replaced by a pivotal connection with a bush slidable on an horizontal guide bar. Duplicate actuating- mechanism and a pair of outwardly-swinging shields, combined with a stationary central guard, may be employed.
