Abstract
435,451. Machinery guards. DUMONT, E. S., and BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd., Brantwood Works, Tariff Road, Tottenham, London. Feb. 21, 1934, No. 5747. [Class 80 (iv)] In presses and like machine tools wherein a horizontal sliding guard is operated automatically from a moving part of the machine, the guard is adapted to travel transversely across the front of the tool and then to perform a turning movement finally coming to rest which in a position at right-angles to that from it started. In the Figure, which is a plan view, 4 and 10 are guides for guard members 3, 6 placed in front of the tool 2. The guard 3 is actuated by a lever 5, and the guard 6 is pivotally mounted on a rod 7 carried by a bracket 8 on the guard 3. The front free edge of guard 6 has a roller 9 running in the guide 10 which is curved and extends round at right angles at 11. Thus, while guard 3 follows a straight path, the guard 6 moves both transversely and circumferentially. A part 12 on bracket 8 forms an additional support for the guard 6. The guide members 4, 10 are adjustably carried by telescopic members 13. The leading vertical edge of both guard members may be made flexible by being formed from a coil spring covered with rubber.
