Abstract
616,018. Staking machines. BROWN, B. Aug. 19, 1946, No. 24663. [Class 76] A movable clamp controlled to synchronize with the movements of the reciprocatory head of a staking machine for smoothing and stretching skins is mounted to press outwardly against a stationary guard located immediately in advance of the machine table. As shown, the clamp 2 of elongated form with resilient curved face 5, is pivotally mounted at 7 beneath and along the front edge 4 of the machine table 3 and is controlled by a connecting rod 9 anchored at one end to the bracket 6 of the clamp and at the other end through a spring 17 to a bell-crank lever 10 operated by a cam 11 fixed on the machine driving shaft 12, which also controls the machine staking head 13. The stationary guard 18 consists of a rounded upper bar 1 lying parallel and level with the table and a vertical part running down to curve inwardly and horizontally under the table to form a lower table. The guard may be fixed or movable and may be used in conjunction with a fixed or movable shield 20 rising above the guard. The clamp may be controlled to be operable at will.
