[Class 31(i)] For trimming garments, e.g. the edges of skirts, the skirt is placed over a form 17 and the edge is supported by a drum 18 preferably having a bevelled upper edge 18', and the form 17 is adjusted vertically relatively to the drum 18 so as to permit the edge of the skirt to extend below the bottom of the drum. The form 17 and drum 18 are mounted on a vertical shaft 7 mounted in anti-friction bearings supported by a hollow base 5 of light metal, and the form 17 is carried by rods 15 supported by a sleeve 9 which is connected by a rod 67 to a screw-andnut device operable by a wheel 68 for adjusting the position of the form. The edge of the skirt is cut by means of a coacting pressure roller 55 and a cutting- disc 48, which as shown forms a pinked edge to the finished skirt. The cutter 48 is driven from a motor 30 controlled by a switch 63, and the driving-mechanisms for the cutter and drum 18 are supported by a tube 28 clamped to a rod 26 also clamped to a vertical pivot 22 about which the mechanism can swing so as to move the cutter and associated parts away from the drum while the skirt is placed in position. The motor 30 drives the shaft 42 of the cutter 48 by means of pulleys 34, 36 and belt 35 arranged in a casing 38 secured to the tube 28, and by gears 40, 41 arranged in a gear case 33. This case supports a mounting for a spring-pressed pivoted arm in which the presser roller 55 is mounted, and also a member 44 carrying at each end pulleys 45, 46 for feed bands 47 coacting with the drum 18. These bands are driven by a pulley 50 on the cutter shaft 42, and press the skirt against the drum so that the skirt is fed by the combined action of the bands 47 and drum engaging member 49 secured to the shaft 42.
