Guards.-A self-contained guard for a baconslicing machine is not attached to the machine nor to the table or counter on which the machine stands, but is held in position solely by the weight of the machine resting on a base-plate of the guard. A base-plate a carries two pillars e, g supporting end! guards b and a collapsable lattice gate f, held in position by a pivot. h engaging a lug i on the pillar g and by a hooked rod engaging a lug l at the upper end of the pillar. A catch m on the guard fits over the rod j and the lower part of the guard fits into a, trough or guide n. Short rods o on the base-plate prevent the machine from moving on the base-plate.
