Singeing.-In cloth-singeing machines in which the cloth passes over flames from gas burners, means are provided for raising the cloth cleair of the burners in case of a sudden stoppage or to allow the operative to adjust the burners. As shown, the cloth passes over guide rollers C and further guide rollers F mounted on slides or blocks E movable on pillars D. The blocks are connected by rods g and levers G to a counterbalanced hand-rail H, a catch K being provided to maintain the handle in its depressed position, the rollers F then being raised and holding the cloth clear of the burners A.
