Abstract

Guards, controlling. - Guards for presses, stamps, &c. are carried on a sliding member reciprocated across the machine bed at the commencement of a working-stroke by a wedge, which is moved at right angles to the line of motion of the guard by lever and cam mechanism from the cross or driving-shaft, the sliding member being spring-returned. A bar c, guided between three pairs of rollers d, slides on a fixed base e and carries a sheet-metal guard a with a rounded edge a'. A wedge f, carried by a rod l reciprocated by a lever and a cam on the main shaft (not shown), bears against one pair of fixed rollers d and a roller g terminating a slot c<1> in the bar, through which the wedge passes. When the wedge f and guard a are in the positions shown in broken lines, the dies are shielded. A tension spring h, connecting a fixed stud k and a stud j on the bar c, returns the guard when the moving die is almost in its uppermost position. Studs u and washers prevent excessive movement of the wedge f.
