Abstract
203,287. Lioud, F. Sept. 4, 1922, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors. - Petrol or other hydrocarbon and water, alcohol, or other liquid are finely divided and mixed with air before being supplied to the engine. Petrol is fed from a float chamber through a conduit d and a gauged nozzle to a tube g carried by a plug f and having a number of small holes o in its wall. The tube g is surrounded by two other tubes i, of which i is carried by the plug f and j by a plug p. The water or other liquid is fed from a second float chamber b through a conduit e to the space between the tubes i, j. The whole of the tubes are surrounded by a baffle tube k which closely fits or is soldered to the tube g, and the interior of which communicates with the atmosphere through calibrated apertures l. The normal level of the fuel and water is shown at x-x. At starting, the nozzle discharges fuel only. As the suction increases, the level in the tubes g, i, falls and air and water are ultimately drawn into the tube g through the holes o and discharged along with the fuel into the main air stream to which supplementary air may be added through duct m.
