Abstract

Stable solutions of 3 : 31-diamino-4 : 41-dihydroxyarsenobenzene and like arsenobases with reducing sugars are prepared by acting with an organic base, for example piperazine, upon a neutral soluble condensation product of the arsenobase having one or more side chains directly linked to a nitrogen atom, and then adding a solution of a reducing sugar; or the reaction may be effected in the presence of a sugar. In an example, 3 : 31-diamino-4 : 41-dihydroxyarsenobenzene-N-methylene sulphoxylate dissolved in glucose solution is treated with piperazine; the solution is ready for use after standing for a few days. Specifications 112,984 and 177,283 are referred to. The Provisional Specification also mentions hexamethylenetetramine as a suitable organic base.
