Abstract

202,549. Larsen, M. Oct. 13, 1922. Sterilizing milk. - In apparatus for pasteurizing milk by the " holding " method the inlet and outlet valves are operated by means connected with the stirrers, so that the apparatus can only be emptied and refilled after the stirrers have made a definite number of movements. In the arrangement shown, the pasteurizing-vessel 4 is divided into four compartments 6, each of which is connected to the inlet conduit 24 and the outflow conduit 26 through a three-way cock 21. The cocks 21 are operated from a spindle 18 on which is a starwheel 17 driven by a pin 16 on a ratchet-wheel 12, which is driven from a rock-shaft 8 carrying the stirrers 9 by a pawl 15 and the connections shown.
