Sterilizing milk.-Apparatus for sterilizing milk by the " holding " process consists of a series of tanks which are filled by a rotary distributor, which may have a step-by-step motion, and emptied by disc-valves operated by a cam on the shaft of the distributor through rods traversing the tanks. The distributor may consist of a vessel e with a spout f rotating under a milk supply pipe s in a vessel a, the lower part of which is divided by partitions b into four compartments from which pipes d lead to four sterilizing tanks. On the shaft h of the distributor e is a disc m carrving a cam n operating lift-valves r, to empty the sterilizing vessels, through rods p. The distributor e may be given a quarter-turn every quarter of an hour by hand through bevel-gear k, or it may be driven step-by-step or continuously at a corresponding rate by machinery.
