Abstract

268,603. Humbeeck, F. June 23, 1926. Sterilizing milk &c.-Milk &c. is sterilized in hermetically sealed crown-stoppered bottles or other containers by progressive heating by steam under pressure in a chamber 9 in which the bottles are kept in rotation about a horizontal or inclined axis 8. The bottles are then allowed to cool gradually in the open. In an example, the bottles, in baskets and inserted in compartments 5 in a polygonal drum 1 rotatably supported by a shaft 8 carried by brackets 10 having wheels 11. After wheeling the loaded drum 1 into the chamber 9, the shaft 8 is coupled ,for rotation, to a crank 13 on a driven shaft 8' extending through the wall of the chamber. Steam is introduced by a longitudinal pipe, having downwardly directed nozzles, submerged in water at the bottom of the chamber. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifcations 16355/98, 30048/13, 156,994 and 208,140.
