Abstract

D i s i n f e c ting- chambers. - Apparatus for sterilizing food or milk jars or like containers by means of steam comprises a sterilizing chamber 9 for the containers and a boiler 5 supported by a stand 1, the chamber 9 having a water seal 17 in which rests a cover 13, steam connection between the chamber 9 and the boiler 5 being made by a pipe or pipes 7 extending from the boiler into the base of the chamber whilst a thermometer is provided in the top of the cover 13. In one form, the boiler 5 and chamber 9 are supported on rims 3, 4 on the stand 1 which has a part of its outer wall removed. The boiler 5 has a filling spout, the steam pipe 7 extending from inside the boiler, slightly above the filling spout, out through and around the concave bottom 8 and then up through the top of the boiler and into chamber 9 through a tubular socket 10 in its base 11. The cover 13 has an opening 14 in which a closure means, such as a cork, is fitted, said cork carrying the thermometer. The boiler 5, chamber 9, cover 13, and stand 1 may be circular or rectangular in section and may have handles 16. The chamber 9 may have a false bottom for supporting the articles to be sterilized, for which racks may also be provided. In another form, the chamber 9 may rest on a rim on the boiler 5 instead of on that attached to the stand 1.
