Abstract

185,185. Nielsen, N. J. May 26, 1921. Preserving milk.-An apparatus for filling sterilized milk &c. into sterilized vessels in a chamber through which hot air is circulated is so arranged that a slight excess of pressure is produced in the part where. filling and stoppering take place. For this purpose, the vessels are passed through an opening 34 in a casing 7 on to a turntable 8. Air is withdrawn from the part of the casing 7 outside an annular wall bv a fan 14, passed over heaters 16 and returned to the casing 7 behind an annual wall 6 carried by the turntable. A baffle 35 is arranged below the filling and stoppering devices so that air is not withdrawn from that portion of the casing, and a baffle 36 or a door is arranged to prevent the escape of hot air through the opening 34. The filling device consists of a tube 27 within which works a tube 24, which can be lowered into the mouth of the vessel by a rack and pinion 26.
