Abstract

For the continuous cooling of liquids particularly fresh water to a temperature near the freezing point, the liquid is passed through the externally cooled tubes of at least one tube cooler 1, 2 in a cooling system, the cooling being controlled by sensing the thickness of ice formed in the last part of the cooling system. The sensing of the ice thickness is preferably carried out by registering pressure differences at places between the 3 inlet and outlet 8, 9 of the cooling system by differential pressure meters 20, 21. <IMAGE>
