Abstract

Steel wire from a rolling mill is cooled by immersion in the liquid phase of a water and water vapour system in equilibrium, contained in a tank (10). The wire enters via an inlet (30), is conveyed across the tank (10) on a conveyor (11), and exits via an outlet (30'). The tank (10) is surmounted by a chamber (20) provided with condensers (21) wherein the water vapour generated by immersion of the steel wire into the liquid phase is condensed. <IMAGE>
