Abstract

Apparatus is provided for cleaning metal strip prior to treatment thereof and essentially comprises a process tank (1) incorporating a bath (6) of a low-vapourising temperature cleaning liquid through which the metal strip (4) will be conveyed by conveying means (22). Before entry into the bath the strip is subjected to heating and washing by steam from steam spray nozzles (2). The cleaning liquid may be recirculated between the bath (6) and separate tanks where purification and recovery of the cleaning liquid may take place. The cleaning liquid is preferably a freon, e.g. trichloro- ethane. The metal strip may be of steel which then passes to an electrolytic tinning line. <IMAGE>
