Abstract

A device for controlling the travelling speed of a motor vehicle has a differential amplifier 1 to which is fed a desired value signal and an actual value signal tapped from a potentiometer 13 across which a fixed reference voltage is applied. The differential amplifier 1 is coupled with a correcting motor 8 for adjusting the throttle valve 10. The device is connected so that when the throttle valve 10 is set for the maximum acceleration the slider 12 of the potentiometer 13 is at a low potential and when the throttle valve 10 is in the idling position the slider 12 is at a high potential. The slider 12 is connected via a fixed resistor 4 with that end of the potentiometer 13 which is opposite to that which is held at the higher voltage. Faults occurring in the feedback signalling circuit produce an actual valve signal which causes the throttle valve 10 to be closed and therefore dangerous situations are prevented. <IMAGE>
