Abstract

1429303 Automatic control of speed CAV Ltd 21 March 1973 [4 April 1972 (2)] 15347/72 and 15348/72 Heading G3R In a system for controlling the fuel supply of an I.C. engine the output of a transducer measuring an engine operating parameter is passed through a circuit which is responsive to a fault condition to cause the control system to reduce or cut off the fuel supply. In the embodiment shown the pump position transducer 53 comprises a variable coupling transformer whose output is rectified at 55 and passes to an amplifier 57. The output of the amplifier is connected through resistors 16a, 16b into the main control circuit which is similar to those disclosed in Specifications 1416861 and 1416862. The transducer provides a high output when the fuel supply is zero and thus provides an output from amplifier 57 which is low under fault conditions. The normally non-conductive transistor 62 responds to an excessively high output of amplifier 57 under other fault conditions to operate safety circuit 65 which disables the control amplifier 25 to de-energize actuator 13 and allow the spring-biased pump control rod 14 to return to a minimum fuel condition.
