Abstract

200,509. Sturtevant Mill Co., (Assignees of Sturtevant, T. J.). July 7, 1922, [Convention date]. Reciprocating sieves.-Rapid vibratory movements are imparted to a screen by a support, reciprocated by an eccentric of small eccentricity, on which the screen rests but which is not attached to the screen. In the construction described two screens 27, 41 of different mesh are freely mounted in a frame and supported at their lower ends on leaf-springs 40, 49. The lower screen has secured to it a longitudinal plate 115 and a transverse channel plate 111 provided with bars 109 which rest on a plate 103 connected to a rod 79 reciprocated by the eccentric 64 on a shaft 63 driven by a motor 67 through a coil spring coupling 65. The lower end of the rod carries a shoe running in a groove on a ring 71 mounted on ball bearings on the eccentric and is held up to the ring by a compressed spring 89. The rod is intended to reciprocate at right-angles to the screen and means are provided to adjust the guides 99, 83 for this purpose. The vibrations are transmitted to the upper screen by a stud 119 on the plate 115 bearing on a wood or like stud 121 carried by a longitudinal channel bar 35 secured to the screen. The vibrations may be adjusted by a spring 127 bearing on the upper screen and adapted to be set by a screw 131 passing through the cover of the frame. The sides of the screenholders are provided with lips 39, 47 to prevent escape of the material being screened, and washers are provided to avoid entrance of dust from the casing to the eccentric mechanism.
