Abstract

818,111. Filters. LONGWOOD ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan, 3, 1958 [March, 19, 1957], No. 8901/57. Class 46. A screen for trade effluents or the like consists of a case having inlet and outlet openings, a substantially semicylindrical screeningmomber, and a central shaft provided with means for rotating it so that brushes mounted on the shaft may sweep the screening member, means also being provided for imparting rapid reciprocatory or vibratory motion to the screening member. A casing 1, Fig. 1, with an open bottom has an inlet 2 with which registers an inlet 2A in one of the closed ends of a screening member 4, Fig. 3, the member being reciprocated longitudinally by an eccentric coupling 7, Fig. 1, on a transverse shaft 8 driven by an electric motor 10. Filtered effluent flows through the bottom of the casing 1 while residue is swept by brushes 18 mounted on a shaft 14 rotated by an electric motor 16, over an edge 4A of the screening member 4 and thereafter passes for example between press rollers 19 on to a conveyer belt 20. The moving parts alternatively may be driven by an I.C. engine, or by pulley and belt mechanism, or by a single electric motor.
