Abstract

A compact load dependent relay valve assembly comprises a triple valve 8 for selectively connecting a brake port 86 to a vent 94 or a pressure supply port 82 controlled by a piston member 70 in response to the pressure derived from a drivers braking control pressure at a port 44 by a variable area diaphragm pressure proportioning valve 5 controlled in use by a vehicle load cam 63 and a push rod 66 passing through the triple valve 8 and the piston 70. There is shown a pilot valve 4 between the control port 44 and the valve 5. The pressure responsive member is subjected directly to the pressure under the variable area diaphragm to provide a compact and rapid acting variable load valve. <IMAGE>
