Abstract

A load responsive brake pressure regulator for a motor vehicle braking system comprises a rocking beam (29), whose fulcrum position depends on the loading of the vehicle axle (15) and which controls hydraulic fluid supply from a brake master cylinder (12) through a ball valve (43, 44) to the brakes of the vehicle. Brake pressure acts on the beam (29) through piston (46) in opposition to master cylinder pressure acting through piston (35) and through piston (39). Above a certain value of master cylinder pressure, only a proportion of master cylinder pressure is applied to the (as shown) right hand end of the beam. This pressure is reduced either by a proportioning valve (61) (Figure 2) or by means of an auxiliary piston (39) (Figure 1), which at a predetermined pressure overcomes a pre-loaded spring 40 to oppose the piston (35). <IMAGE>
