Abstract

In a control valve assembly for a vehicle braking system in which a valve controls communication between an inlet (7) and an outlet (8), the valve (11, 13) having a valve seat (12) carried by a control piston (9) and an inertia-responsive member (13), preferably a ball, movable into engagement with the valve seat to close the valve at a predetermined deceleration of the vehicle, the stepped piston (9) then increasing the outlet pressure at a lower rate than the inlet pressure, a disabling device (14, 15) is provided which is operable in response to the pressure at the outlet (8) to hold the valve (12, 13) open. In a particular embodiment, the disabling device comprises an auxiliary piston (15) which is resiliently biased by a spring (16) to an inoperative position, the auxiliary piston (15) being movable, in response to a predetermined outlet pressure, against the biasing force to hold the inertia-responsive member (13) off its seat (12). <IMAGE>
