Abstract

A braking force regulator for motor vehicles has a housing 1 with a valve 8 housed in a piston 5 subject to the influence of the brake pressure and a control spring 16. For load-dependent regulation, an adjusting element 21, e.g. cam-operated, is provided which acts upon the valve element 11 of the valve 8. The adjusting element 21, the piston 5, the valve 8 and the compression spring 16 are axially aligned. The adjusting element 21 may be moved automatically into a central position in the event of a break in the linkage. The compression spring 16 may be adjustable as regards the initial stressing force or the spring rate. Adjustment is prevented during braking by the braking pressure producing a wedging action on balls or a ring 56 (Fig. 7). <IMAGE>
